Airplane baby shower invitations.

Remember the baby shower I hosted in March? Baby Jonah has now arrived (!), so I thought I'd finally share the invitations. Jonah's daddy is really into RC planes and cars, so the shower's transportation theme was introduced through this design. I picked up the envelopes at the Regional Assembly of Text in Vancouver and reused letterpress scraps for a registry insert. Welcome to the world, Baby Jonah! Click images to enlarge.

Trains + Planes for Baby.

I hosted a baby party for very good friends this weekend. They are expecting their first child (a boy) any day now and we are all so excited! Anyhow, I hesitate to call it a shower because it was a tad unconventional. No games or finger sandwiches, spouses and significant others and plenty of beer... you get the idea. Because the father-to-be is very into RC, I went with a trains and planes theme. I'll post the invitation in the near future, but in the meantime, here's how the buffet table looked. This look was inspired by a shower I loved on Amy Atlas' blog. Sources follow below, but you can also check out the Pinterest board for the big day. Enjoy!

One cute giraffe.

A good friend of mine, Brooke, is expecting her first baby soon, so I was honored to be able to create shower invitations in celebration of this exciting event. =) Incorporating an illustration from another girlfriend, Annie, the design is inspired by Brooke's nickname for her little one: Baby G. G is for giraffe, after all! Pressed on my wee Kelsey, these also reflect Brooke's love of all things purple. I hope she enjoys them. Congrats, Brooke + Keith!

I'm taking some time off until after Labor Day, so see you all soon. Have a wonderful long weekend! =)

Martha's favorite Etsy crafters.

I was pretty stoked to see this list of Matha's favorite Etsy shops. Etsy is a wonderful resource and, since buyers work directly with the artists, can also be helpful in finding ways to save money.

Out of the shops Martha has featured, I particularly like Milla Love's offerings. Her pretty paper garlands and cupcake toppers are colorful and cute. Any of these would be especially fun at a bridal or baby shower.

Etsy picks: baby + kiddos.

Every now and then, I like to post a little something for baby (and the bigger kiddos). Etsy features work from so many wonderful artists who make everything from fun toys and artwork to more practical clothing and bibs. There are also quite a few eco-conscious crafters making things such as reusable baggies. Gotta love that!

Etsy finds: kids + baby.

Etsy is also a great resource for finding goodies for kids, as well. From knitted caps to unique onesies to handmade toys, there's a little bit of everything out there. Two of my favorite finds include custom art canvases and felt food. Who wouldn't be thrilled to have either of these in their room?

My own lovely custom painted canvas! Personlized pieces also available at PennyPicklesArt

DIY: Diaper cake.

This past spring, I put together a diaper cake for a co-worker who became a new mother. She was on bed rest for a good portion of her pregnancy, so I wanted to send over a special treat that was not only cheerful, but also useful. If you are hosting a baby shower, this project could also double as a pretty (and unique) centerpiece.

Although it might look complicated, the "cake" was fairly easy to create. I followed these instructions, but think there should have been direction as to what size of a cardboard cake platform to use. I ended up with one that was a bit on the large side, so I'd recommend getting the 14" size.

Now, I just have to wait for more friends to procreate... ;)
