As a way of giving back and giving thanks this November, I am going to donate 10% of all sales in my Etsy shop to ASPCA. In addition, my husband and I will make a donation to the shelter where we adopted one of our sweet kitties nearly 13 years ago.

In case you are curious as to why I have chosen ASPCA: We unfortunately lost both of our furry beasts this year (one to diabetes, the other to cancer) and such loss has left us a hole in our hearts. They were our loyal and loving companions for 12 years, and we are so thankful for every minute (good and bad) that we had with them. The ASPCA works to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws and share resources with shelters nationwide. When we adopted our kitty as our local shelter all those years ago, we only had to pay $15 for a friendship I'll never forget.

On Saturday, I attended my first Wayzgoose at the School of Visual Concepts here in Seattle. Oh my goodness, it was a letterpress geek's dream. So, so fun. The hubbers and I particularly enjoyed watching the Steamroller Smackdown. It's exactly as it sounds. A giant steamroller was driven across oversized printing plates to create fairly large posters. Can't wait until next year! Steamroller evidence follows below:

Thank you all for being so patient as I was traveling abroad. I spent five weeks in Europe, 10 days of which were spent with my husband by my side. The journey was incredibly inspiring. But, I'm happy to be back and looking forward to firing up the press again.

Ideal anniversary gifts.

My husband and I try to stick to the traditional anniversary gifts each year. I love that this has become a little tradition of our own. On our first anniversary, he presented me with a collection of his own illustrations of important events that year. On our fifth, I gave him a wood-framed print that perfectly reflected a reading from our wedding ceremony.

Now, as our 7th approaches, I'm looking at the list and kind of baffled. Wool and copper? Wool is so inappropriate in July. Copper? Well, I think I'm going to have to get a bit creative with his gift this year.

I just ran across an image from Heather & Andrew's vintage-inspired wedding and had to revisit the whole album as shot by the talented Julia Newman. The level of detail these two put into their reception is amazing. I'm particularly fond of the brightly patterned vintage napkins you'll see below. So, I've obviously been busy! The past couple of weeks have been dedicated to creating everything for an art deco-inspired wedding that I was lucky to attend this weekend. My handsome husband was a groomsman, so this was a special event for both of us.

Each of the attendants was given a personalized Taste Book full of the bride and groom's favorite recipes. The quality is very nice and the couple was able to add a personal message to the front of each book. This may sound off a nerd alert, but I'm insanely geeked about adding my own recipes to it, too.

Last month, I acquired a 2,000 lb. beast of a letterpress. It's been an absolute joy to work with as I've been cranking out personal stationery orders, gift tags and even my own holiday cards over the past few weeks. The card I created this year ended up being quite complicated, but I'm really happy with them. They are accordion-folded with a circle-shaped photo affixed to the front and our holiday letter making up the back panel. I wrapped the entire package with a lovely moss green and gold sash. I hope our friends and family enjoy receiving these cards as much as I enjoyed creating them.

When I began reading this Real Simple column on manners and the role of holiday cards in today's technology-heavy society, I immediately felt resentment bubbling to the surface. Why would a columnist focusing on manners urge against sending cards by basically calling them a waste of time and money?

Fortunately, author Michelle Slatalla questioned herself and gave this annual tradition further thought. After discussing card sending habits with friends, she concluded that a meaningful card is indeed worth the time and effort. I couldn't agree more.

While email and social networking sites may keep us connected (in some form) to friends and family, what we communicate is usually brief and impersonal. Keeping this in mind, I don't necessarily believe sending cards is an obligation, but being the recipient of such effort at this busy time of year is certainly appreciated. I personally take correspondence a few steps further by sending postcards and thank you notes (the very definition of manners perhaps?) throughout the year.

So, I continue to send out holiday cards each December. My husband and I enjoy sitting down and reflecting on the past year and composing a letter filled with photos and memories. And if I don't get a card back from you? No worries. I wouldn't dream of crossing you off our list next year.

We are hosting our annual holiday party this weekend, so I'm in full on baking, cooking, decorating and wrapping mode. I look forward to this party every year and usually starting planning it in October. Crazy, I know!

Since we gave our living room a mid-century makeover this year, we decided to go with a vintage vibe at this year's shindig. This started with choosing a pretty metallic paper reminiscent of that era to dress up the invitations. You can see the results below.

Urban Craft Uprising picks.

I spent a good portion of the weekend exploring the handmade shows happening around Seattle. The Urban Craft Uprising is, by far, my favorite. This year's show was incredible, too. Well, it's November 1 and here in Seattle, it's pouring outside. I'm never a fan of this month as it tends to rain non-stop and can feel a bit grim as a result. I hope to have my hands full with a few projects to create a distraction. =)

Daf & Alexa's darling London wedding is the kind of wedding I covet (and not only because it occurred in my favorite city!). Remember Tara & John's vintage save-the-date postcards? Well, their invitations are completed now, and I'm really pleased with how they turned out. Fortunately, Tara & John love them, too! I created a series of designs inspired by their art deco era wedding venue. In the end, the couple chose a minimal and classic looking invitation suite that is wrapped with a navy linen sash and enclosed in a khaki envelope. I can't wait to see how the rest of the wedding comes together!
